Who it’s for
Hair with dark, banded or built-up ends from years of box colour or repeated tinting, where the ends need clearing before new colour can go on evenly.
What to know
- Results depend heavily on what’s already on the hair. Old colour doesn’t always come out evenly or completely, and we’ll be honest with you about what’s achievable before we start.

“I was visiting from overseas and usually quite pedantic with my foils. I found Zowie on instagram and I’m so glad I did! She made me the most perfect golden blonde that I’ve been trying to get hairdressers to achieve for a long time now. She was also very thorough and gentle and all around a good person. “Just had my hair done at PeterJames for the very first time. Went there on recommendation from my daughter. What can I say- I absolutely love my new cut and colour from James. The salon is spacious and modern, the staff are super welcoming and friendly and the 2 wee pups make the experience all the more enjoyable!! “I know a few people who go to PeterJames and their hair always looks fabulous so I thought I would try too after having a disaster! From the min I worked in for my patch test I felt welcome (so did my daughter who loved the dogs!) James and I talked over what we could do and where I wanted to be (was dark brown/grey! And wanted blonde) he explained it would take a few appointments which I was absolutely fine with as he was so honest.. he booked me in with Peter for the following week and again, Peter went over and explained everything to me, he advised on products etc and I left feeling amazing and had a nice Colour after getting highlights.. unfortunately I was really unwell between my appointments and in and out of hospital but I kept in touch and Peter even sent my products I had ordered to my parents house where I was staying for a bit.I am just home from my second appointment and my hair looks and feels fantastic, the colour is amazing and I cannot believe the shine (I’ve never had a shine when having blonde hair before!) just arranged to go out with my friend tonight as I feel so much more confident!! What services do you offer?
Cutting and styling, colour — from balayage and highlights to a root stretch or a toner — treatments for condition and smoothing, hair extensions and children's haircuts. Alongside the salon there's a dedicated scalp and hair clinic for hair loss, thinning, shedding and menopause hair change. The full list is on our services page.
How do I book an appointment?
Online, through Salon IQ, our booking system: choose your service, who you'd like to see and a time. If you'd rather speak to someone first — particularly about the clinic, if you're not sure what you need — call the salon and ask.
Where are you, and when are you open?
We're at 119-121 Dalry Road, Edinburgh EH11 2DR, two minutes' walk from Haymarket station and tram stop. We're open Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, and until 7pm on Thursdays. We're closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Is a clinic appointment different from a salon appointment?
Yes. A clinic consultation is time set aside to look properly at your scalp and hair under digital microscopy and leave you with a written plan. It's its own paid appointment, and the fee is redeemable against what we recommend.
Do any services need a consultation first?
Hair extensions start with their own consultation, so the right length, volume and colour match can be agreed before anything is fitted. The specialised colouring transformations — going blonde, going brunette, or moving an existing blonde somewhere softer — each need a consultation before they can be booked.
Which brands do you use?
Wella Professionals for colour, System Professional for haircare and treatments, Nioxin and Glowwa in the scalp clinic, K18 for molecular repair, Briogeo for curly hair, Remi Cachet Elegance for extensions, Sebastian Professional for styling, ghd for styling tools and KILLABRUSH antimicrobial hairbrushes.
